Flashlight

I was called by Blond studio to be part of BLOND LABORATORY with 5 more international designers. All of us were invited to contribute projects in response to the Blond artifacts studio initiative to creat new objects in response to the offline ispriation of real obbjects no longer in production. Each designer selected an artefact from a Blond collection of ordinary everyday objects.

The hammer received from Blond features a distinctive detail that clearly highlights its structure and use. It is a tube with a bent rod at the end, acting as a hook, attached to the tubular handle by hammering, crushing the tube onto the rod. I imagined removing the tube from the hammer head, removing the rod and turning the tube into a flashlight, crushing it at the end to create the hook point from the tube itself. Inside the aluminum tube, we drilled recesses to house the electronics, button and battery. The diffuser, which can be removed, also serves as a cap for the internal elements. The end of the tube was compressed with a press and then cut using a wire erosion process.
